There is a Spanish phrase that used to baffle my productivity obsessed brain. Not because I didn’t understand the translation. Because I didn’t understand the concept.

The phrase?

No tenemos prisa or sin prisa.

Directly translated: we don’t have rush, or without rush.

Basically it’s the Spanish concept of moving throughlife unhurried.

I cannot relate to this phrase. What do you mean you don’t have rush? Where did your rush go? Did you lose it?

I always have a rush. Tengo prisa is my lifestyle. Between my ADHD hyperactivity, my overachiever ambition and the hustle culture we live in… rush is my default state.

Recently I’ve been having a bit of a reckoning with my “rush” and I’ve had some uncomfortable realizations. Which I might as well share with you:

  • A driving factor in my desire to “quantum leap” last year was because I felt “quantum behind”.

  • This nagging feeling of I should be further along is actually a form of self violence, that has been creating significant harm.

  • I would be enjoying the process of building my business significantly more if I didn’t have this urgent task master in my head constantly reminding me “you’re so far behind”.

In this weeks inner circle episode I unpack my process of “unsubscribing” from my internal sense of urgency, and give you journal prompts for releasing yours as well.

If you constantly feel behind, or in a rush this one is for you.
